Multnomah Village Farmers Market Is Closed

With great regret, the last market session for Multnomah Village Farmers Market was held on July 9, 2009. Simply put, sales were not high enough for the farmers and food vendors to cover their expenses. We were also unable to attract vegetable farmers, limiting the variety of produce available for customers.

Once the summer market season is over, we will talk to farmers and
determine whether or not a market in Multnomah Village might work for
them. We will be asking if different days or different times or both
will be more beneficial. Thank you to all the customers who did come
to the market.

June 24 2010 Update
The market will not re-open. Portland Farmers Market holds two very good markets on Thursdays. You can find out more about those markets at portlandfarmersmarket.org.

July 1 2009 Market

The Hood strawberry season is over so make room for the summer fruit. You’ll find raspberries, blackberries, and perhaps blackcaps this week. The cherry harvest is going strong now and you’ll find a nice variety there too. Nature’s Choices joined the market last week. Bill brings in maitake and shiitake mushrooms as well as seasonal wild mushrooms. Bill also has a nice selection of dried mushrooms, mushroom salts, dried rose hips, dried huckleberries and huckleberry jam. He will be bringing fresh huckleberries when the harvest begins too.

As many of you can tell, it’s been difficult for me to bring in farms with a wider variety of produce. A few farms from last year have had scheduling problems and are unable to come to a Thursday market. I have been talking with an organic farm with great produce and am actively helping them figure out a way to start at the market this week. I will post an update as soon as I can confirm their participation. In the meantime, here’s what should be coming this week:

The fruit harvest is catching up fast. Last week it was cherries, this week it’s raspberries. Blueberries and blackberries shouldn’t be far behind. Here’s what the vendors expect to bring this week.

For weeks, we were told that the cherry harvest was late, weeks away, etc. Well, There is nothing like a long string of warm days and cool nights to hasten the harvest. Cherries will be readily available as will strawberries.

June 11th Market

The weather should be more amenable this week. I’ll settle for less windy conditions.

Packer Orchards joins the market this week. They join Draper Girls’ Country Farm, Graceful Blades Nursery, Greenville Farms, Herr’s Family Farm, Missionary Chocolates, Rogue Creamery, Savory et Sweet, Unger Farms Inc., and Wandering Aengus Ciderworks. Red Dragon Nursery is off this week. Let It Grow Farm from Crow, OR should be coming in the next week or two.

June 4th Market Update

Weather can foil the best of plans. Last night’s storm forced us to close the market. We weren’t alone. Portland Farmers Market’s Eastbank and Ecotrust markets closed as did the Rose Festival’s Waterfront Village. Several canopies broke apart in the wind but no one was hurt. Thank you to the shoppers who helped us break down and pack up so quickly.

We’ll be back next Thursday. Check back next week for an update.
